BOH TEA CENTRE

BOH Plantations (BOH), Malaysia's favourite and leading tea brand, today officially opened the new BOH Tea Centre at Sungei Palas in Cameron Highlands. Officiated by Yang Berhormat Dato' Maznah Mazlan, the Pahang State Minister of Tourism, Culture & Arts, Women & Family Development, the BOH Tea Centre is set to provide tourists with a unique and comprehensive experience of the tea industry in Malaysia.

Located on a hilltop, amidst rows of tea bushes and in close proximity to Gunung Brinchang, the BOH Tea Centre houses a tea refreshment area (Tea'ria), a souvenir and tea shop as well as an exhibition area featuring information about the tea manufacturing process, benefits of tea and the history of BOH Plantations dating back to 1929.

Visitors participating in the conducted tours of the adjacent BOH tea factory will gain first hand knowledge of how BOH teas are grown and processed to give the "ummph" that BOH tea is known for.

The BOH Tea Centre also boasts a 20 foot overhanging platform which presents spectacular views of the tea garden. This balcony is a favourite spot for visitors as they immerse themselves in the beauty of the surroundings while savouring one of BOH's many types of tea.

Portraying a contemporary and stylish image, Tristan Russell, Chairman of BOH Plantations explained that the BOH Tea Centre has been purposefully designed to integrate with the natural landscape and surroundings.

The BOH Tea Centre has also received due recognition for its design. In 2006, the Pertubuhan Arkitek Malaysia or PAM awarded the BOH Tea Centre an Honorary Mention in the category of Public and Civic Buildings for the building's design quality supported by the surrounding environment.

"Certainly, a 'must-see' destination while in Cameron Highlands, the BOH Tea Centre, is indeed a world class tea centre, conceptualised to give visitors an all-embracing experience of tea - from learning about tea and shopping for tea, to sipping a cup of hot tea amidst the serenity of the tea gardens," said Russell.

"The timely launch of the BOH Tea Centre in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2007 aims to complement ongoing efforts to enhance tourism to Cameron Highlands. In fact, one of the reasons for the establishment of the BOH Tea Centre was to cater to the increasing flow of visitors to the highlands and to our plantation. As tea pioneer and tea expert with a history dating back to 1929, we believe the BOH Tea Centre is an important part of the BOH brand experience. With our brand promise, 'BOH puts the Ummph! in Life', we see our role as a catalyst to help create magical moments of togetherness for you and the people you love - to give you that 'more than feeling'. And certainly, the BOH Tea Centre's objective is to give visitors another 'ummph' moment as they experience its different highlights," he added.
In her keynote address, Yang Berhormat Dato' Maznah Mazlan said, "The BOH Tea Centre is indeed a great concept for visitors to gain an in-depth insight into Malaysia's tea heritage and to understand more about BOH.

"We commend BOH Plantations' efforts which will complement tourism initiatives for Visit Malaysia Year 2007. We are confident the BOH Tea Centre will augment the value of Cameron Highlands as a tourist attraction."

The BOH Tea Centre is open daily except Monday from 9.00 am - 4.30 pm. Admission to the factory visit is free and information tours are conducted approximately every 30 minutes. For more information, contact 605-4961020 or email: info@boh.com.my.
